Stella McCartney and adidas Race Ahead With the New Rasant
info@hypebae.com (Hypebae) Mon, 27 Jan 2025 HypebaeWith Y2K indie sleaze back in full swing, footwear is following suit. Isabel Marant high tops, boxing-inspired trainers and motorsport aesthetics like PUMA's Mostro and Speedcat sneakers are making waves. Adding to the mix, adidas recently revived its Rasant sneaker which received so much love, the brand announced a new trendy cowhide colorway at the end of last year.
Building on adidas and Stella McCartney's long-standing relationship, the two reintroduce the Rasant in a fresh, collaborative design, which debuted at Stella McCartney's Spring/Summer 2025 Paris Fashion Week show last September.
Derived from the German word for 'rapid,' the Rasant's name is a nod to the sneaker's sporty, racing-inspired roots. Additionally, the shoe takes cues from adidas' Monza sneaker, a silhouette worn in the '70s and '80s with a racing pedigree to match. The Monza also celebrates a full circle moment for both brands as the sneaker was first spotted on Stella McCartney's Spring/Summer 2002 runway back in 2001 -- a pivotal show that sparked the conversation leading to their long-running collaboration. Fast-forward to 2025 and the Monza's spiritual successor -- the Rasant, brings it all full circle.
This new version of the Rasant comes in white and red colorways, featuring tassels at the back for a subtle wing-like effect. The design leans into Y2K influences while being entirely vegan, using animal-free materials as a modern alternative to nubuck leather.
