grounds is starting the year with a bang, unveiling its thought-provoking Pre-Fall 2025 campaign, "skyline." The brand has set its sights on exploring the human body, identity and our complex relationship with the planet, weaving all these themes into a narrative that's as intriguing as it is stylish.

Shot by the talented Cristina Sánchez Salamanca, the campaign takes place in California's most extreme landscape -- Death Valley, the hottest, driest and lowest national park in the U.S. In this scorching and otherworldly setting, "skyline" tells the story of a young woman on a journey of self-discovery, navigating her identity through prancing, dancing and wandering under both the blazing sun and the cool desert night -- all while wearing grounds. The beautiful visuals capture the tension between the beauty of the human form and the vast, unforgiving environment, making the collection feel both intimate and expansive.

"skyline" draws inspiration from the brand's rich history of footwear designs, reimagining classic styles with fresh fabrics and colorways. The campaign showcases fan favorites like the "Moopie Knit-on-Knit" and "Moopie Mary Jane" but also introduces exciting new pieces, including the "Baby Jewelry Zip-Up Boots," the "Orca Lace Jewelry" and the "Jewelry Loafer."

In a statement shared in a press release, Mikio Sakabe -- grounds' creative director, reflects on the campaign's powerful backdrop, "The endless dusty roads, sand dunes and sweeping mountain ranges of Death Valley were the perfect setting for exploring the human body and its identity. Everything around it feels haunting -- much like our complex relationship with gravity and the earth. This connection is at the heart of what grounds represents."
