From her music to her appearance and personal life, there's not much about Britney Spears that hasn't been dissected by the press and social media. Remarkably though, there have been few documentaries about the pop star's life, likely having to do with the fact that her father, Jamie, exercises tight control over her career and estate. Yet another subject much buzzed about by fans and onlookers alike, Spears was placed under a court-appointed conservatorship, managed by her father, which later became permanent.

Now, FX is delving into the subject of Spears's conservatorship battle, as well as her early life and rise to fame with Framing Britney, a documentary part of investigative series The New York Times Presents. The feature, set to premiere on Hulu, collages together old interviews with the star, performance clips, as well as insight from her assistant, lawyers and supporters (including those leading the #FreeBritney movement) to reveal how much control the singer really has over her own image, work and identity.

Framing Britney Spears premieres on Hulu and FX on January 5.
