At the top of 2025, seven-time gold medalist Simone Biles hinted at retirement in a Sports Illustrated interview. Just four months later, Biles appears more firm in her decision, revealing her "why."

When asked if she would attend the 2028 Olympics, she admitted, "Because I've accomplished so much," she began, "there's almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I'm at a point in my career where I'm humble enough to know when to be done."

More specifically, she claimed competing in the 2028 event would be a "greedy" move. "If you go back, you'll be greedy. Those are the consequences," she said.

However, in a new conversation with French sports website L'Equipe, she shared that there's more to the story. "I'm really trying to enjoy life, to spend time with my husband, go support him at his games, live my life as a woman," Biles stated. "I've accomplished so much in my sport. For me to come back, it would really have to excite me."

Alongside her familial duties, she's also aging out of the game. "A lot of people think it's just a one-year commitment but it truly is the four years leading up to the Olympics,' she said. "It's in LA, it's back in the States, which is so exciting. But if I’m going to compete again, I’m not so sure."

In her Sports Illustrated interview, she hinted that her career was bleeding into her marriage and it was time to start a family. "When you're younger, it’s like, prom, college. Now it's like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?"

Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history, but it is still hard to wrap her head around, she admitted. "I don’t think the reality has set in of what I've exactly done in the sport. I can see it, and I hear it from people, and I see a glimpse of it, but the full magnitude I don’t think I've realized just yet. I don’t think I'll realize 'til maybe I retire and look back in a couple years like, Damn, she was good. Because I can see that, but I do it every day. So for me, it's normal."
