Here's How Celebrities Honored Modern American Fashion at the 2021 Met Gala

Celebrating the Costume Institute's 75th anniversary, the theme of this year's Met Gala -- "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" -- honors modern American fashion. After being canceled last year due to COVID-19, A-list stars and influencers alike finally got to show off their best looks on the red carpet.

Billie Eilish, the evening's co-host, donned a princess-inspired Oscar de la Renta nude tulle dress with a dramatic train. The Happier Than Never artist also channeled her inner Marilyn Monroe with her retro curls. Fashionably late, Rihanna and her boyfriend A$AP Rocky attended the event together in eye-catching fits. Rih Rih stunned in a dramatic Balenciaga coat while Rocky showed up in designs by ERL.

Unlike her previous Met Gala looks, Kim Kardashian opted for an unusual ensemble by Demna Gvasalia. The fashion and beauty mogul showed up in an all-black jumpsuit styled with a T-shirt dress, balaclava and jersey boots. Lorde also made heads turn with her jeweled crown and custom Bode gown. Meanwhile, American politician and activist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a political statement with her white gown by Brother Vellies. Written in red, her message read: "TAX THE RICH."
