10 Female Hispanic Artists To Have On Your Radar

Hispanic Heritage Month, observed between September 15 and October 15, is dedicated to celebrating the vibrant contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx community. And though technically it has almost come to an end, the celebrations shouldn't be limited to this time of year.  After all, the beats and rhythm of bachata, salsa, reggaeton and corridos are all over modern-day pop.

However, it's important to recognize the challenges Hispanic musicians face when trying to break into the mainstream Western music scene. Take Rosalía, for example. It was 2022's "La Fama," featuring The Weeknd that propelled her onto the global pop music stage for many, but her journey actually began with Los Ángeles back in 2017. There's also artists, like Shakira, who have been making music (and topping charts) since the early '90s.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Hypebea has curated a list of amazing female artists to add to your playlists. Whether you're a fan of pop powerhouses like Karol G and Becky G, or eager to discover emerging talents like Loyal Lobos and Saramalacara, we've got a diverse range of sounds for you like pop beats, indie and even drain gang influences -- there's something for everyone to enjoy.

KAROL G

Columbian singer-songwriter, Karol G has made a significant impact in the male-dominated reggaeton scene since breaking into the scene in 2017. It was with "Ahora Me Llama" alongside Bad Bunny, that initially brought her international recognition. Her album, Unstoppable, reached number two on Billboard's "Top Latin Albums" chart, too.

Regarded as a leading voice in reggaeton, she is often seen as a successor to trailblazer and self-acclaimed reggaeton pioneer mother, Ivy Queen. One of her standout tracks, "BICHOTAG," focuses on female empowerment by redefining the term "bichote" from a drug dealer to a "boss woman" or "bad bitch," showcasing her ability to reclaim and redefine a traditionally masculine genre.

Shakira

No discussion of Latina music icons is complete without mentioning the legendary Columbian singer-songwriter Shakira. Rising to fame in the early '90s, she has solidified her status as the queen of Latin pop. Her impressive career boasts 12 studio albums, one reissue, five live albums, two compilations, 69 singles (including 13 features and five promotional tracks) and 62 music videos -- a truly legendary catalog.

Her latest single, "Puntería," features Cardi B and is part of her recent album, "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" ("Women Don't Cry Anymore".) The song explores the familiar tale of being irresistibly drawn to a charming, yet toxic, man. This collaboration came to life after the two met at the Fall/Winter 2024 Fendi show during Paris Fashion Week, where their creative chemistry sparked a musical partnership.

Loyal Lobos

Emerging from the Los Angeles' music scene, singer-songwriter, Andrea Silva draws inspiration from her childhood in the countryside near Bogotá, Columbia and her young adult experiences. This rich background has made her poetic music what it is today, weaving together themes of love, sexuality and femininity. With an ethereal, almost gothic tone, her captivating sound is sure to win you over.

One of her latest singles, "Limón," brilliantly blends reggaeton and pop, creating a hypnotic sound that ebbs between euphoria and melancholy. Plus, the accompanying music video showcases Silva's mesmerizing performance. Keep an eye out for her upcoming releases: "Lola Vol. 2" is set for release on October 24.

Saramalacara

Young Lean, Bladee, Ecco2k and the genre originally dubbed "Cloud Rap" have profoundly influenced a generation immersed in their unique sounds. Among the emerging artists making waves in this niche is Saramalacara, who embodies the essence of this scene.

As a key figure in Buenos Aires' version of the Swedish "Sad Boys Drain Gang," Saramalacara is part of the "RIP GANG" collective, where she blends deep web culture with kitschy Y2K trash aesthetics. This melancholy image expresses her emotions through her music, crafting an intriguing persona that deeply connects with her audience. One standout track, "Nether," from her March single "Heráldica," delves into themes of dark web escapism and drug culture, blending the complexities of modern life with an innovative sound.

Maria Becerra

With over 24 million monthly Spotify listeners and 12 billion views across her music videos, Maria Becerra has become a major force in Latin music. The former YouTuber from Argentina shot to fame through collaborations like "En Tu Cuerpo" with Rauw Alejandro and "Además de Mí," which became her first number-one hit on Argentina's Hot 100 list.

One of her latest singles, "AGORA" which released just last month, encapsulates the feeling of living in the moment and explores the regret of a failed relationship while searching for a second chance. With extremely relatable lyrics and a soul Bossa-Nova inspired ballad, Becerra continues to solidify her position in the music industry, proving that she is not only a talented vocalist but also making her a compelling voice in the global music scene.

Foudeqush

Born Paola Maldonado in Coahuila, Mexico, this 25-year-old musician has carved a unique niche in the music world. Influenced by a diverse range of artists -- from My Chemical Romance to Björk, Grimes and Crystal Castles -- she embodies the emerging bedroom pop genre with a distinctive sound.

Her career took a thrilling turn when she contributed to the soundtrack of the 2018 Marvel film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever collaborating with renowned composer, Ludwig Göransson on the enchanting track "Con La Brisa."

One of our favorite tracks from her latest album, ANGELA, is "ACELERA2!" This catchy song captures the exhilarating experience of falling in love while at the club, blending playful lyrics with infectious beats.

Young Miko

Rising Puerto Rican rapper, singer-songwriter and former footballer, Young Mik0, just launched her XOXO LATAM tour, but her music journey began by rapping over beats she downloaded from YouTube and sharing her music on SoundCloud. After working as a tattoo artist for four years, she released her breakthrough reggaeton single, "Classy 101" which reached number 99 on Billboard's Hot 100 and significantly boosted her visibility in the music industry.

Young Mik0 draws inspiration from a diverse array of influences, including pop culture, video games, Latin rap and her own queerness, creating a unique and eclectic sound. Her track "princess peach" beautifully encapsulates this blend, weaving a queer-centric narrative throughout the song. We're particularly fond of her latest single, "sorry es sue soy bipolarrr," featuring fellow Hispanic artist, ROBI. This poignant track explores the complexities of living with bipolar disorder in the context of a relationship, offering a heartfelt glimpse into this experience.

RaiNao

RaiNao is one of the most exciting voices in urbano music, blending jazz, R&B and alternative pop into sleek reggaeton. As a trained saxophonist, she has a keen ear for distinctive sounds, crafting melodies that linger long after they play. Since her 2022 EP, "Ahora A.K.A NAO", the 30-year-old artist has gained global attention, especially after one of her tracks was shared on Bad Bunny's Instagram. This led to an unforgettable moment when he invited her to perform at his homecoming show in San Juan during the "Un Verano Sin Ti" tour.

RaiNao's music explores themes of romance, sex and love, capturing the complexities of modern relationships. Her playful yet emotional lyrics resonate with listeners, making her tracks perfect for both dancing and reflection.

Judeline

Spanish singer Lara Fernández Castrelo, known as Judeline, began her music career at 17 in 2020 and soon moved to Madrid to pursue it fully. Focusing on indie-pop with Latin influences, she released her debut EP, "De la Luz (Of the Light)" in 2022. In 2023, she signed with Interscope Records, home to artists like Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar.

Before her solo career, Judeline collaborated with reggaeton heavyweight Tainy, opened for J Balvin on his Eurotour, and walked in Paloma Wool's Fall/Winter 2024 Paris Fashion Week show. Her music blends electronic and soft pop, characterized by a haunting aesthetic. We love her track "zarcillos de plata," a touching ballad about love and intimacy, tempered by an auto-tuned hum capturing both earthly desire and a sense of the divine.

Becky G

Born in California, American singer-songwriter Becky G has established herself as one of the top Latin pop queens in the industry. She first gained international recognition in April 2015 with her hit single "Shower," which peaked in the top 20 of Billboard's Hot 100.

Her music blends hip hop, reggaeton, pop and dance rap, showcasing her versatility. One standout track is "MAMIII," featuring Karol G, released in 2022. This empowering anthem marked Becky's highest-charting single to date. The song celebrates sisterhood and the rejection of toxic relationships, embodying a strong feminist message.
