Longchamp's Hero Handbag Is Now Made of Recycled Nylon

Longchamp's Le Pliage, a stalwart accessory among celebrities and preppies alike, will be remade in recycled nylon. The French brand has announced "Le Pliage Green," a collection of select Le Pliage styles -- including the OG shoulder tote -- made of repurposed material.
According to Longchamp, the use of recycled versus virgin nylon reduces each bag's carbon footprint by nearly 20 percent. The company plans to transition the entire Le Pliage line to recycled material by 2022. To begin, a curated selection of Longchamp's totes, travel bags, pouches and backpacks will be refashioned in the eco-friendly fabric in four colorways: white, navy, burgundy and hunter green.
Le Pliage, a foldable style inspired by the art of origami, was first introduced by Longchamp in 1993. Since then, it's been spotted on the arms of countless celebrities including Kate Moss, Beyoncé and Alexa Chung, helping catapult the bag to cult status in the early-to-mid 2000s. As early aughts fashion continues to make a major comeback, a reawakened love for Le Pliage may be on the horizon. The bag's much-needed eco-friendly makeover will likely assist Longchamp in pushing the accessory back into the spotlight.
Longchamp's "Le Pliage Green" collection will launch on July 20.
