Steff Eleoff's "Whale Tail" Body Chains Prove the Visible Thong Trend Is Here To Stay

Toronto-based jewelry designer Steff Eleoff throws it back to the early 2000s with her latest collection and campaign, a playful homage to Y2k-inspired fashion.

Riffing on the resurgence of the "whale tail" trend, Eleoff introduces a silver body chain that fastens at the waist and dips onto the lower back, imitating the look of thong straps when worn with low-rise pants. The revealing style choice, perfect for the advent of "Hot Vax Summer," has made a comeback in recent years -- Versace dabbled in the trend for Spring/Summer 2021, as did LaQuan Smith, Dion Lee and Sandy Liang. Whale tails aside, Eleoff's new campaign also spotlights the designer's striking Goop earring and Terra ring, carefully crafted to imitate the appearance of melting metal.
