Jennifer Lopez Files for Divorce — Here's Why

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck began dating in 2002 and after rekindling in 2022 they officially tied the knot. According to Lopez, however, their time apart took quite a toll on them both, resulting in her filing for divorce.

"We both have PTSD," Lopez shared on a 2023 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! When the couple split in 2004, it was because of "excessive media attention," the Enough star revealed. "But we’re older now. We’re wiser. We also know what’s important, what’s really important in life and it’s not so much what other people think. It’s about being true to who you are."

However, following her solo appearance to the 2024 Met Gala, rumors circulated that she and Affleck were headed for splitsville. At the time, the couple hadn't been spotted together since March 30.

A source told People they were not living together as Affleck filming The Accountant 2 was affecting the relationship. "He is more introspective and private. She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world. This makes them considerably different, and it has been difficult in the day-to-day relationship," the source continued.

"There have always been clashes in their styles, how they handle issues, and their actions, but nothing has stopped their love over the years," the source said. "This is a great love story."

The day after the news broke, Lopez and Affleck made their first public appearance in two months. Despite appearing arm-in-arm, fans were not convinced. However, Jennifer Garner, actor and Affleck's ex, told a source "She wants him happy and healthy so he can be the best dad possible."

Unfortunately, news confirmed the discord on August 20, 2024 when JLo filed for divorce.
