83% of Young Asians Prioritize Friendships Over Romance

Yuzu dating app releases a new study on Gen Z's habits in friendship and love.

According to the "Summer Friendships" survey, "83% of respondents value friendships over romantic relationships," the Yuzu shared. Specifically, "Users demonstrate a strong preference for nurturing friendships, viewing them as a cornerstone of their social lives."

The study also revealed that the loneliness epidemic, the reality that 1 of ever 2 adults is lonely and socially isolated, is still in flux. Over 50% of respondents stated that they often or always feel lonely. As Yuzu shared, "The prevalence of loneliness among respondents highlights a critical aspect of their mental and emotional health. This underscores the need for strong social support systems and meaningful connections."

In the age of anti- pick me discussions and ditching dating apps, it suggests that Gen Zers are rightfully prioritizing community as their anchor. Yuzu continued, "This shift suggests that for many, the support and companionship offered by friends are seen as equally, if not more, fulfilling than romantic partnerships."

Despite feeling lonely, Gen Zers aren't desperate, they're leaning into their communities, or prioritizing forming them if they have consistent FOMO. Friendships offer stimulation and support, which are both essential not only when single but partnered, too, pointing to a healthy approach to love and life for Gen Z.
