Billie Eilish addresses her "coming out" following a subtle interview.

In November 2023, Billie Eilish allegedly came out to Variety in an interview curated for the "Power of Women" issue. "I love them so much,” she spoke of women. "I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real," she confirmed. However, where the publication -- and public -- took this as her coming out, Eilish revealed this was never her intent.

According to Eilish, she was outed by Variety. "Thanks Variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11AM instead of talking about anything else that matters,” she wrote via an Instagram post on Sunday. "Literally, who cares," she closed.

As Out, shared in an article recounting Eilish's "subtle" hints, Eilish donned the "Gay & Tired," filter on her face, which her fans assumed was a "soft launching her sexuality" moment. The chaos doesn't end there, though. After "coming out," Eilish has lost approximately 100,000 of her 110 million followers on Instagram.

When asked whether she intended to come out, she told Variety: "No I didn’t... But I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?'... I didn’t realize people didn’t know... I just don’t really believe in it," she spoke of "coming out." "I’m just like, 'Why can’t we just exist?' I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it. Whoops."

The news comes after Eilish and former beau, Jesse Rutherford, split, which also led to controversy. If you're unfamiliar, the former couple broke the internet after the world discovered their 11 year age gap, which many found predatory. Eilish has yet to go public with anyone since.
