9 Affordable Winter Items That'll Make Your Outfits Look Lavish

I'd have to say that of all the seasons, winter is the easiest one to get away with looking "lavish" without trying all that hard (or spending that much cash). For example, the right coat can make any outfit look luxe, the colors of the season are inherently rich, and it's not hard to find an expensive-looking sweater for a great price. And I'm making it even easier by sharing exactly what you need to achieve a lavish winter wardrobe that only looks expensive.

Instead of one big overwhelming shopping round-up (though I love those too), I'm breaking things down into nine categories of items that will make your winter outfits chicer, year after year—and they're all shockingly under-$100. Read on to shop my carefully selected picks, including accessories, outerwear, sweaters, and everything else you need to stay cozy and look cool this winter (and leading up to it, of course).

Moreso than any other sweater color, cream sweaters look elegant and expensive. My advice is to opt for ones with an oversized fit.

A long coat makes every winter outfit look instantly elevated—even a sweatsuit.

Velvet is my go-to for winter evenings. A mix of textures (such as velvet and denim or wool) is a great way to make your outfits look expensive.

Camel will always be the most expensive-looking color on the planet. Adding a touch of it via your scarf or hat goes a long way.

Of all the denim washes, dark denim is the one that looks the most expensive, hands down. A dark denim maxi skirt or straight-leg jeans will take you far this winter.

Suede—even faux suede—just looks so much more luxe than leather in the winter. Look for pieces with minimal (if any) hardware.

A full skirt will lend a chic vintage touch to your outfits, which is always a good thing.

As far as expensive-looking colors go, jewel tones such as burgundy and forest green are right up there with camel.

Pair a checked wool skirt with a cream-and sweater, tights, and knee boots and you're set.
