Model, actress, director — you name it, Bruna Marquezine's done it all. The Brazilian native embraces her role as a multifaceted creator, constantly pushing the boundaries of her craft. Known for her performances in the DC Comics film Blue Beetle and the Netflix series Maldivas, Marquzine's latest acting project, Amor da Minha Vida, also allowed her to step behind the camera as a director. In this double-duty assignment, she got to explore love self-discovery through her character, Bia — a journey that mirrored her own in many ways. "Balancing acting and directing was a challenge, but it was also the most fulfilling experience," she told us. "It gave me a chance to see the story from multiple perspectives and contribute to it in a way that felt personal." Much like her evolving profession, her collaboration with YSL Beauty is all about embracing authenticity, empowerment and one's unique essence.

For Marquezine, beauty is about more than just the surface. It's a reflection of individuality, confidence and feeling comfortable in your skin. "It's personal and there's no one-size-fits-all approach," she reflects. "For me, it's about finding that balance where you feel confident and true to yourself." It's this philosophy that resonates deeply with her partnership with YSL, a brand that champions the same ideals.

Below, the Brazilian star opens up on her debut directorial role, her exciting new job as YSL Beauty's U.S. ambassador and what's next in her ever-expanding career.

On being a US ambassador for YSL Beauty

It's been an amazing experience, I've always been a fan of YSL Beauty. They're big on authenticity and being true to yourself. I love its vision of beauty as a form of self-expression so, it's been a dream to represent a brand that's iconic and timeless. For me, beauty is about authenticity and confidence. It's a reflection of who you are, not how you look. That's at the heart of YSL Beauty — they embrace individuality and encourage people to express themselves creatively. It's not afraid to push boundaries while still staying true to its identity.

On how her YSL partnership changed the way she approaches beauty

It's made me think more about how beauty can be empowering. Makeup and skincare aren't just routines — they're ways to express yourself and feel good in your skin or ways to take a moment to yourself — being off your phone and just looking in the mirror and being with yourself. [The partnership] also encouraged me to experiment more, whether it's trying new colors or different techniques.

On Amor da Minha Vida

Amor da Minha Vida is such a special project for me. It's a story about identity and the different ways we connect with the people in our lives. My character, Bia, is figuring out who she is while navigating love and family. It's been such a rewarding role to play. I was immediately drawn to the script — it felt so honest and raw.

On the most rewarding part of being involved in the show

Seeing the story come to life was the most rewarding part. Acting is about focusing on the emotions of a story and staying present in a scene while directing is about how all the pieces come together. It's a balancing act, but both roles complement each other. As an actor, you're in the moment, living through the character. As a director, you get to shape the bigger picture. Now, I have a deeper appreciation for the creative process.

On her beauty philosophy

It's about feeling good in your skin. Beauty should enhance who you are, not cover it up.

On who's influenced her over the years

My mom, for sure. Growing up, I'd watch her get ready and it taught me that confidence is the most beautiful thing you can wear. I'm also inspired by the people I've worked with, from makeup artists to stylists to designers — they've all helped shape my style. Of course, there are also all the Brazilian icons I look up to: Taís Araújo, Gisele Bündchen and Fernanda Montenegro.

On how she keeps evolving

It's about staying curious and open to new challenges. Whether it's trying a new role, exploring directing or collaborating with people and artists I admire, I always want to keep growing. It's also about taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone.

On where she looks for inspiration

I'm inspired by so many people, but mostly by the women in my life who are fearless and unapologetically themselves. My family is a huge inspiration, too.

On the advice she would give to those aspiring to break into the industry

Be yourself and don't let anyone tell you you must fit into a box. Be patient, be kind to yourself and don't be afraid to take risks.

On what's next for her career

There are so many artists and directors that I'm inspired by and with whom I would love to work. I'm also excited to take on more creative roles behind the camera. I attended my first Met Gala last year, which is insane to think about. I couldn't have predicted any of that, so who knows what's next.

On her top beauty essentials

I usually keep it simple — moisturizer, lip balm, eye cream and sunscreen are my essentials. The YSL Beauty "Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Stick" in shade "02" is my go-to, it's hydrating and gives my lips the perfect little shine.  The YSL Beauty "Touche Éclat" Concealer is great for brightening my under-eyes and touch-ups on the go. I also love the "Couture Mini Clutch" and "Lash Clash Mascara" from the brand.
