My Mom and I Can Both Wear These Basics, and They're All Under $150

Courtney Falsey  Wed, 20 Dec 2023  Who What Wear

While my mom and I don't share clothes anymore, when it comes to basics, we definitely still could. Our general style sensibilities are pretty different (she's more daring than I am), but for everyday, we both love classic, yet comfortable staple pieces we can build upon. For whatever reason, whenever I shop I almost always clock items my mom might like. Since she knows this, she'll often task me with finding her whatever new basic she needs. A few weeks ago, I actually uncovered the elusive white t-shirt she'd been after (oversized, yet polished) that could have easily had a place in my closet as well.

I may be in my thirties, but finding pieces that work for both of us brings me a lot of satisfaction. Maybe it's the high school girl in me who used to love our shopping trips together coming out. Who knows! The reason doesn't matter so much, I suppose. But, since I'd make this list anyway, I decided to share the best basics I've come across that work for both me and my mom in case you can relate to anything I've just said. All from Nordstrom, for under $150 to boot!

Rich mom energy.

I'm really into the way they've styled this double breasted coat with knee-high combat boots.

My mom loved these when I showed them to her.

I'm a big believer in the power a red shoe can lend to a neutral outfit.

A cream jogger feels more elevated than your standard grey or black.

My mom and I will one hundred percent be fighting over this sweater.

These would make a great holiday gift for mom!

Upgrade your basic blazer with a little boucle.

& Other Stories continues to do well by us on the denim front.

A sculptural earring lends a finishing touch to any outfit.

The pockets on this cardigan make it a definite yes for me.

A slouchy, striped tee looks especially chic with a pair of jeans and a ballet flat.

The boxy fit and longer sleeves on this white tee make it appealing to both my mom and I.

There's something so classic about an a-line dress.

The built-in belt on these jeans is such a nice detail.

The bow on these kitten heels is fun and festive for the holidays.

Don't mind me pining over the perfect oversized button-up.

Pleated skirts can feel a bit matronly, but the polka dot print on this one makes it youthful.

This classic coat is a piece my mom and I could both enjoy for years to come.

This Mango shopper is a great dupe of The Row original.

The corset detail on this shirt-dress makes it universally flattering.

The oversized collar and ribbed cufflinks elevate an otherwise ordinary basic.

The square toe on these really excite me.

Since so many of us work from home, a pair of comfortable, yet cute leggings are a must.

I saw someone wearing a similar shirt with a brown-checked blazer the other night and she looked so chic.

It's boot season and you need these.

When you want a basic pant in a color that's not black or grey, might I suggest chocolate brown?

My mom and I both live in sweatshirts and this cropped version would fit nicely into our rotation.

The mother/daughter sneaker of choice!

The slouchy fit of this sweater is chic without trying too hard.  Up Next: 7 Handbag Trends That Will Define the Rest of 2023
