Apple's virtual reality headset is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated tech inventions to (hopefully) arrive in 2023. The futuristic eyewear has been long speculated for the last few years, with many Web3 experts agreeing it will be a key innovation towards the development of the Metaverse.

According to The Information, close sources familiar with Apple's XR headset development have revealed new technical details about the creation, which confirm earlier rumors. Believed to take the silhouette of ski goggles and said to present a lightweight built from aluminum, glass and carbon fiber, the set will offer quality-of-life improvements to the already existing augmented reality formats.

The mixed-reality headset reportedly contains two processors, a main SoC (M2) and an ISP for video processing, which ensures high-quality mixed-reality applications. An extra H2 chip will be embedded for audio transmission purposes alongside integrated speakers in the product's headband. Additionally, a quick dial will enable users to switch between the virtual and physical worlds. Besides, the possibility of adding corrective lenses will be offered for visually impaired individuals.

Even though games are not Apple's focus, immersive VR experiences will be offered via the partnered game engine, Unity. The set will also be able to display existing iOS apps in 2D, just like a MacBook does. The Information confirmed the invention will show outsiders de facial expressions of the headset wearer to reduce isolation feelings. Elsewhere, an app for XR video conferencing with realistic avatars that reflect accurate facial and body movements will be available.

With a speculative price of $3,000 USD, watch this space as we learn more about the anticipated XR headset and its official release date.

In related news, Apple is reportedly working on a cheaper version of the airpods.
