The Weeknd Dresses as an Old Man for His New Album

UPDATE (January 4, 2022): Days away from the release of his latest album, Dawn FM, The Weeknd has revealed the cover art for his highly anticipated new record. The R&B singer shared the album cover on Instagram today, which portrayed him as a much older man. 

In a slew of mysterious social media announcements, a one-minute teaser video names rapper Tyler, The Creator, actor Jim Carrey and industry legend Quincy Jones as a few of the upcoming album’s featured artists. 

In a more intimate post, the 31-year-old musician lets fans know that he is doing away with the standard album rollout, opting to drop the entire collection of songs at once online. Posting a screenshot of a conversation with La Mar Taylor, co-founder of XO Records, The Weeknd writes, “Everything feels chaotic again. Music can heal, and that feels more important than another album rollout. Let’s just drop the whole thing and enjoy it with the people … XO.”

ORIGINAL STORY (January 3, 2022): ​The Weeknd finally confirms when he plans on releasing his fifth studio album, Dawn FM, after months of teasing.

The singer recently took to social media to share a video of his forthcoming era. "New album : dawn FM // january 7th," he captioned an Instagram and Twitter post. The trailer gave away more details on what to expect about the highly anticipated project, revealing this is "a new sonic universe from the mind of The Weeknd." Additionally, the video teaser confirmed Tyler, The Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never and Jim Carrey as features.

Before confirming the upcoming album's release date, The Weeknd shared various cryptic posts all suggesting the LP would be coming sooner than expected. While sharing a text message conversation with La Mar Taylor, co-founder of XO Records, the musician wrote, "Everything feels chaotic again. Music can heal, and that feels more important than another album rollout. Let’s just drop the whole thing and enjoy it with the people … XO." He had also taken to Twitter to warn fans about the exciting news. "Wake up at dawn tomorrow," The Weeknd previously tweeted.
