AleXa Is the First K-Pop Star to Launch a Digital Party in the Metaverse

With Facebook changing its name to Meta and Microsoft launching its virtual reality-focused platform Mesh, the metaverse has become a hot topic in recent months. The music industry is now making its way into the digital universe, with breakout artist AleXa becoming the first-ever K-pop name to launch a fan event in the space.

For those unfamiliar with the term, the metaverse is defined as a digital space combining virtual reality and augmented reality in which users "live." In this virtual world, users can communicate with one another and travel to different locations. Simply put, it's like a hyper-real expansion of spaces we've seen in games like Fortnite and Minecraft. Seoul is already planning to develop a digital version of itself in the metaverse, "allowing citizens to conveniently meet with avatar officials to deal with civil complaints and consultations, which are currently being handled only by visiting municipal offices."

Pushing the boundaries of K-pop and music in general, AleXa is hosting a "Global Fan Party" in partnership with games technology company Improbable. The event is set to take place within ScavLab, an event mode used for the action-shooter game Scavengers. Thousands of fans will be able to attend to enjoy unique music experiences, while interacting with AleXa's digital avatar in real time.

"I’m beyond excited to take to the virtual stage in this crazy, extraordinary party... I’m always trying to find unique and intimate ways to connect with my fans, and Improbable has allowed me to bring together thousands of people across the world in one place, and put on a special show," AleXa shares in a statement. ZB Label's CEO Kim Jun-hong adds: "K-pop is now a cultural phenomenon that leads global trends... This marks the first collision between K-pop and the metaverse, and will provide significant meaning for the K-pop industry and its future promotional avenues."
