Girl Scouts Left With 15 Million Boxes of Unsold Cookies

Girl Scouts is facing an unexpected problem this year with its popular cookies. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 109-year-old organization is now left with 15 million boxes of unsold treats, with roughly 12 million sitting in its baking warehouses.
With social distancing restrictions in place, members have been unable to sell their cookies door-to-door and in public parks. The ongoing situation has even forced the Girl Scouts to sell via digital platforms like Grubhub.
"This is unfortunate, but given this is a girl-driven program and the majority of cookies are sold in-person, it was to be expected," a spokeswoman told CBS News. With cookie sales being the main source of funds for programming and camps, the leftovers will have a significant impact on the Girl Scouts, which usually sells around 200 million boxes (or $800 million USD worth) a year.
