Avril Lavigne Reflects on Her "Dirty, Rock Hair" From the Early Days of Her Career

Most people wish they could go back in time and make changes to their style in previous years, but that's not the case at all with Avril Lavigne, who takes pride in how she styled her own hair.

"There's nothing I wish I did differently," the "Bite Me" singer told Nylon. "I do look back and think some things are funny. I didn't have a stylist, and I wore my own clothes out of my suitcase for a year, over and over. I didn't have makeup and hair people. I was just like straight, dirty, rock hair. But that's also what made me, me."

However, having to do everything on her own does make her wonder why she didn't have a team helping her day in and day out. "In the beginning, I would fly, get a car, put my own suitcase in the car, drive my ass to wherever I had to go," Lavigne said. "I look back at that s—t and I'm like ‘Why didn't the label or managers at the time be like ‘Maybe she should have a hair and makeup person on the road to help her with her blow-dryer or give her a clothing rack to pick from?'"

It's been nearly 20 years since Lavigne came on the music scene when she released her debut album, Let Go, in 2002. Since then, she wishes her team had been more hands-ons. "That's the stuff I look back and I'm like ‘I could've had more help,'" the Canadian musician added.
