Kids in China Can No Longer Play Online Games for More Than Three Hours a Week

Those under the age of 18 in China are no longer allowed to play online games for more than one hour a day on Fridays, weekends and holidays.

As reported by Xinhua News Agency, gaming will only be allowed between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time on those days. In addition to the restriction, companies have also been instructed to limit game-playing for minors outside of that time frame. On top of that, the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) is planning to implement stricter rules, requiring users to display their real names to register to portals.

"A limited amount of gaming time for minors is understandable and acceptable as some online games can play an active role in their development, like sports, programming or chess," an official commented on the change. The latest update follows China's new policy introduced in 2019 that restricts minors from playing games past 10 in the evening.
