Lesbian Bars in the U.S. Are Disappearing — Here's How Hinge Plans To Help

Lesbian bars in the U.S. thrived in the late '80s with around 200 establishments across the country. Fast forward to 2021 -- only 21 remain.

In light of the situation, Erica Rose and Elina Street launched The Lesbian Bar Project last year to support and celebrate the last few bars standing amid the pandemic. Having ended its latest campaign last month, the organization has now teamed up with Hinge to further aid the remaining lesbian bars.

Hinge has announced that it will allocate at least $50,000 USD in stimulus payments to the lesbian bars while encouraging its community to visit each location. This week, Hinge users will be greeted with a new notice upon opening the dating app with the title, "Send a Rose, Save a Lesbian Bar." Additionally, the platform will suggest matches to go on their next date at one of the participating bars where you can get to know each other through the on-site interactive experiences, as well as Prompts to spark a conversation.

Hinge x The Lesbian Bar Project's new campaign launches on August 8. Head over to The Lesbian Bar Project's website to learn more about the cause.
