A  judge denied Britney Spears's motion to have her father, Jamie Spears, removed as conservator of her estate. The ruling is the result of a filing made by the pop star's attorney in November 2020 to have Bessemer Trust, an independent firm, act as co-conservator alongside the elder Spears.

"The conservator's request to suspend James P. Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice," the court filing states. The decision comes shortly after Spears made a rare public court appearance to detail her treatment under the conservatorship. She characterized the arrangement as "abusive" and alleged that her father would not let her remove her IUD. "This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good. I deserve to have a life," she said.

According to The New York Times, the singer's father has called for an investigation into the allegations made at last week's hearing. His lawyers denied claims that he wielded control over her healthcare decisions.

The next hearing for Spears's conservatorship case will take place on July 14.
