Merriam-Webster Is Auctioning Off the Definition of "NFT" as an NFT

Merriam-Webster added the term "non-fungible token" (NFT) to its famed dictionary this morning. To commemorate the addition, the publisher is selling the definition of NFT as, well, an NFT.

The dictionary entry is up for auction on OpenSea, a popular NFT marketplace. Currently, the highest bid is 5 Ethereum, currently worth approximately $21,400 USD. "By auctioning the NFT of our definition of 'NFT,' we're offering people a fun way to own a little bit of Merriam-Webster's thought and meaning," said Peter Sokolowski, Merriam-Webster's Editor-at-Large.

Net proceeds from the sale will be donated to Teach for All, a global network of organizations that helps connect educators with children in disadvantaged communities. As celebrities and brands alike jump on the NFT bandwagon and launch their own, seemingly pointless digital collectibles, we hope to see more public figures use the NFT craze for good.

Head to OpenSea to check out Merriam-Webster's NFT.
