Seoul Names Subway Station After K-Pop Giant, SM Entertainment
info@hypebae.com (HYPEBAE) Tue, 30 Aug 2022 HYPEBAEK-pop has proved itself as one of South Korea's most powerful industries, with a subway station in Seoul being named after SM Entertainment, one of the biggest management companies in the country.
Seoul Forest station, located in Seongdong-gu, has now been renamed Seoul Forest (SM Town) due to SM's newly opened headquarters located near Exit 5 of the station. The new name was officially announced despite all residents of the area having voted against the change.
For those unfamiliar, SM Entertainment is home to some of K-pop's buzziest names including aespa, NCT, Red Velvet and EXO. Founded by Lee Soo-man in 1995, the company has been one of the key pioneers of the K-pop industry with notable acts such as Girls' Generation, TVXQ and Super Junior.
