4 Winter Hair Color Trends That Will Elevate Your Look

Hair colors will see a drastic shift this winter. Following summer's bright and bold tones, natural hues and balayage brown or "bronde" moments will be taking over the reins.

"[These colors will add] a little warmth to the face amid the cooler temperatures," celebrity hairstylist and útiles beauty founder Josh Liu tells us. "Stylistically, we will see a lot of blowout textures and looser half-up moments with face-framing pieces, accessorized with bows or headbands. It’s a classic, timeless look."

For those who don't plan on taking regular trips to the salon, Liu suggests using color-safe and sulfate-free hair products. "You need to make sure everything is color-safe because a lot of the ingredients will make your hair brass out, fade and strip the color from your hair," Liu explains. He recommends the Redken Color Extend Magnetics Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner for all seasons of the year, especially winter. "I also love the Redken Acidic Perfecting Concentrate Leave-In Conditioner. It helps strengthen hair and keeps it hydrated and smooth during the brisk winter months as hair tends to dry out and frizz up from the cold static air."

If you're looking to try a new look and hop on the latest trends, Liu has gathered four colors below you can try out this season.

"Root Melt" Hair

For those unfamiliar with the term, "root melt" hair is essentially melting your roots into a complementary color. "[It's] to add a beautiful winter warmth. This is great to transition out of the summer shades," Liu says.

Balayage Pops

To maintain some of summer’s sun-kissed vibes, opt for the classic balayage style. This is to add some "warmth and extra dimension" to your whole look.

Face-Framing Highlights

Maintain some light and warmth in your face by getting subtle highlights. "A couple of balayage face-framing pieces will make all the difference. This is especially great on blondes and a very low maintenance color style," Liu adds.

Au Naturel

Keep it simple by embracing your natural tones and glossing them to enhance color and shine. "It’s easy maintenance, especially in the winter months when you may tend to hibernate and not get your hair touched up all the time," Liu shares.
