These last few years, we've seen all kinds of makeup trends, from the "makeup, no makeup" look to "second skin" and "glazed donut" glam. These styles glorify having "perfect" skin, but what if you genuinely don't have a flawless canvas?

Makeup and skincare are tricky as most brands edify untextured and unrealistic skin as the standard. Beauty enthusiasts suffer from acne, scarring, hyperpigmentation, and dark circles. Those conditions can be problematic when cultivating a smooth and radiant complexion. However, we're here to help with a few makeup tricks. The key is ensuring your makeup caboodle has the essentials: Color correcting concealers and a full, high-coverage foundation.

Now that you know the basics you need to have, keep reading on as we break down the tips and tricks you need to try to have your skin concerns take a back seat to a full coverage beat down.

For acne skin concerns:

The key to taming acne, pimples and redness is to try the color wheel. Color correcting with a green-based concealer first will knock out the redness. Once done, you will conceal it with a beige shade that's true to your skin tone.

For pimples, the trick is to focus on the blemishes you want to cover and then keep your skin free of heavy product — aiming to keep your skin looking as fresh as possible. A heavy base pulls out all of the imperfections in the skin when it comes to minor blemishes.

For hyperpigmentations concerns:

Hyperpigmentation requires strategic, full coverage. For those with this concern, you want to cover the areas of pigmentation with foundation and then go in with a lighter concealer for any of the dark spots for an even finish.

Rule of thumb: Your entire face does not need a full face of product. Cover those central areas and buff the product lightly with a damp beauty blender to the outer regions of your face for a "second skin" look.

For scarring concerns:

If your scars are inflamed or raised, avoid any brightening, highlighting or bronzer products that will most likely draw attention to the spot. Cancel out the scars with a green-based concealer and then go in with your usual concealer. It's also essential to choose a concealer that matches your tone as the wrong shade will only enhance the visibility of the cars. If you have indentions in your skin, it's best to build out and even your tone with a buildable foundation.

For dark circles concerns:

Dark circles have a blue undertone. To cancel them out, opt for an orange-based concealer to reduce darkness and follow up with your regular concealer. For deep-set dark circles, gently press a light touch of setting powder under the eye to open them up and erase any signs of tiredness.
