Winter can be a wonderful time for the life romanticized person. However, beauty enthusiasts alike will agree that harsh winter temperatures wreak havoc on the skin, making it dry, flaky and unbearable to deal with. With seasonal cold weather storms making their way across the world, we must double down on our skincare routines.

Keeping your skin in check goes beyond just applying your regular moisturizer. There are levels to the game. Of course you need a good cleanser but don't over-cleanse. You need many face oils and serums, and we'll get to all of the meat and potatoes. In the meantime, to avoid dramatic seasonal dryness from winter's wrath, we're dropping a few tips to amp up your winter skincare routine. Keep reading on for more.

Cleanse the skin, but not too much.

Even in the summertime, too much cleansing can remove those essential oils needed in the skin, but that rule is even more critical in the winter. There's no need to go crazy with your favorite cleansers. Everything must be done in moderation.

Don't skip the moisturizer.

Fragrance-free moisturizer will be your best friend. After cleansing your face, applying your favorite cream to wet or damp skin is best to help the product penetrate the skin. For body care, petroleum or cream-based moisturizers are far better than lotions.

Hot showers = disaster.

It's okay to take a break from that hot shower and cleansing water for the time being. We know there's pleasure in this act, but it's stripping away your skin's natural barrier. Opt for a lukewarm shower or bath to keep the skin hydrated and smooth.

Invest in an LED Light therapy mask.

Our favorite A-listers and skincare moguls have been telling us this for quite some time. LED light therapy promotes healing and actively treats those pesky acne outbreaks. During the winter, the LED mask can be used to brighten the skin and work against hyperpigmentation.

Humidify.

In the winter, the air is dry and starch which can seep into your sitting room while the heat is running. Room humidifiers put moisture back into the skin, keeping your dewy and plump look on "fleek" while offering much protection.
