Those who have dipped their toes in the world of online dating will most likely have experienced awkward moments involving exes, family members, colleagues and more. To help avoid such situations, Tinder has launched a new feature to allow users to block select contacts.

The update comes after the app learned through a survey that more than 40 percent of members have come across an ex-partner on a dating platform, while 24 percent have spotted a family member or colleague.

"We may not be able to save you from awkward run-ins at the coffee shop, but we are giving you more control over your experience on Tinder," Bernadette Morgan, Tinder's Group Project Manager of Trust and Safety, shared in a press release. "We’re rolling out Block Contacts as an additional resource empowering members with peace of mind by helping create a worry-free space for them to spark new connections."

Initially tested in India, Korea and Japan, the Block Contacts feature is now accessible on the profile settings screen, where users can enter which contact they would like to block.
