The year may have just started, but it's already a big one for SZA. The singer-slash-songwriter has been crowned Billboard's 2023 Woman of the Year.

"Since she burst onto the scene in 2017, SZA has defied genres and continually released raw, powerful songs which have landed her music on the Billboard charts,” Hannah Karp, Billboard’s editorial director, said in a press statement. "The release of her latest album, SOS, has solidified her as a distinct force in contemporary R&B, and catapulted her into superstardom. We can’t wait to honor her as Woman of the Year."

Karp continued, "The release of her latest album, SOS has solidified her as a distinct force in contemporary R&B and catapulted her into superstardom. We can't wait to honor her as Woman of the Year."

SZA dropped her sophomore album, SOS, in December 2022, which instantly became a success. The LP debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming her first chart-topper.

SZA will be honored at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, which will take place on March 1 at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in LA.
