Serena Williams' goal of claiming her 24th Grand Slam title has unfortunately been delayed even further.

Earlier today, the tennis legend went up against Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus at the 2021 Wimbledon tournament in London. During the fifth game, Williams slipped, later falling again in the seventh game. "Williams, seeded sixth, seemed to do the damage when she rocked backwards on the baseline before unleashing a forehand back to her opponent," BBC reported. "I’m so sad for Serena," Sasnovich said. "She’s a great champion. This happens sometimes in tennis."

Tears started to fill her eyes as she walked off the court while thanking the crowd, who all showed her nothing but love and support. "I was heartbroken to have to withdraw today after injuring my right leg," Williams shared on Instagram. "My love and gratitude are with the fans and the team who make being on centre court so meaningful. Feeling the extraordinary warmth and support of the crowd today when I walked on - and off - the court meant the world to me," she added.

Updates on Williams' injury have yet to be disclosed. Stay tuned while we wait for more details to surface.
