Through Italy's Luce Gallery, Taiwanese-American painter Yowshien Kuo is hosting a virtual walk-through of his first solo art show titled "Eye Become the Beholder."

Currently based in Saint Louis, Kuo paints Asian-American figures in "surreal landscapes with American Western undertones." With abstract backgrounds, "star-filled galaxies," and "eye reflective crystals," he aims to "communicate universal experiences through symbolism. As he combines both cultures with his transcendental painting ability, he brings the viewer into his psyche and forces the viewer to question their perspective.

Featuring bold titles such as "Come in Over my Face, Wash Away the Shame," and "Paper's Orgasmic Promise of Gold" Kuo's first solo show taps themes that regularly dominate our psyches: love, acceptance and belonging. Every painting included in the series brings the viewer into a different "realm," via an action film sequence feel.

The term "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" refers to the subjective perception of beauty, a concept Kuo toys with. By rewriting the word "I" with "Eye" in the exhibition's title, Kuo is "emphasizing that individuals will become what they observe, and in this instance, the observations are our unavoidable social desires of love, acceptance, and belonging."
