Mercedes AMG 43: Twin Turbo 6 Wars Begin

I’m barely a millennial but close enough in the range to remember that all you ever wanted in a car was a big honkin V8, loads of low end power with the smooth delivery and instantaneous power/sound that made getting a phone number as easy as pulling out your notepad after you did a small rev push down the street.

These days something has happened and it’s in the name of the environment and saving the environment makes us do crazy things like automakers switching out the low end torque and bass tone of a V8 engine to attempting to feed more engine noise into the cabin due to the lack of grunt and maybe even some fake bass sounds for a V6, add the turbo’s. Some automakers never lose the touch some of the best sounding turbo V6’s Maserati and Jaguar in my opinion. When you get away from the specials (limited dealership network, not high sales volume yet)  the Cadillac CTS V Sport  comes to mind. The car came in touting Cadillac’s best work at dethroning or atleast competing against the Germans and we can all admit Cadillac is now in the argument. Essentially leading the pack of having a V6 Twin Turbo being the  top of the line luxury model outside of the high end sports variants we thought what are they thinking just add turbo’s to your or use the 6.2 naturally aspirated V8. It worked and now after a paragraph applauding Cadillac (this is a Mercedes Review) here cometh the Germans Round 1.

Benz has just introduced their new top trim level outside of the performance variant amg with the Benz AMG 43. Yep, another car maker using the sport variants name within their luxury variants this has become a trend and I think I know why. Let’s start with the numbers and why car makers are in a dilemma I’ll use the Cadillac and the Benz as examples::

So if you look up top all the cars go 0-60 under 5.0 seconds.. For a consumer that is pretty darn fast and near the performance levels of their previous models performance variants. Than you add on sport handling thats above .90 g’s and well you see the why. So now you have a dynamic entry outside of the performance variants that may be the better of both worlds packaged in an fuel saving V6  twin turbo bundle. What does Mercedes add other than the great looks, take a peak:

Transmission:

9G - Tronic auto transmission - speed of a DCT, no safety to this tranny it’s powerful enough to let you bounce off of the rev limiter so switch gears ya here (in an english accent).

4 Matic with a Rear wheel drive bias:

Unlike the add on 4 matics from days of yester year this 4 wheel drive vehicle was actually made for this performance variance: sporting 61 rear and 39 front bias

Electronic Steering that is suppose to be sporty:

Someone will get the feedback perfect, Lexus has a good unit will Mercedes be the first German Brand to come around?

I highlighted the performance now for the tech, you must jump over to the Mercedes S63 AMG review for all the detail.  To soxury vehicles it will be autonomy for your driving, and braking. This will truly be an incredible vehicle. All the models look the same and there are complaints but if all three variants look great do you really care……

Wait for the test drive for a full review but please comment on your thoughts on this Benz and how will it stack up against the competition
