Audi  S5/ S5 Sportback: When 3/4th's is  just enough

The S5 came to market as one of the more elegant vehicles of choice a few years back in coupe form. The body design came to life in a sleek low profile chick magnet that even today in RS5 form is a formidable looker in the carmoesphere. The game that Audi played was highlighting the following not big enough to be a GT not small enough to be called a Miata and with that release a star was borne in the Audi A5. What the S trims bring into the fold are a touch of sportiness or dare I say 3/4th's of the RS5 performance and something for the 4 series, ATS, and C Class to think about. Don't fret there is still something to add to the S5 line and that is in the form of a 4 door coupe and in this version, the car is a stunner.

The years have gone and the Audi growing a bit long in the tooth with the original design comes out with the redesigned A5 less sleek, but more than enough to handle the competition. This one sits a bit higher, gone from yesteryear is the original V8 S5, even though the previous design left us with a TT V6 in the bay. This new mill sports a powerful and handy 369 lb of torque and 354 hp that means down low where it counts the car can explode performance numbers include a 4.3 0-60 time, the 1/4 mile is where we see the drop-off but at 300 hp range not bad at 12.9-second run. At a price point of $56K coming standard with the 8-speed tip Tronic transmission.

Once again Audi again stuns with the simple but soft to the touch materials in a silhouette that to me works better than the overdramatic Benz C63 AMG S. The standard combination of Apple car play, and still having buttons when you need up make it the most comfortable and ergonomic vehicle to date.

The Design line is where I see a lot of problems the high beltline, the sportiness not enough to make one think twice and look. Some of those distinctions directly play into the Audi hand, the subtle man in a suit that you didn't know could tear you head off with a single push of the accelerator. Look close you can see the addition of the matrix lighting, the new box design form telling of a futuristic Tron like time period, one that is coming on us quickly the beginning and the end of an ICE era. There is not much more quable for the car it does what it needs to do and perhaps can play the sportiest car in the bunch priced right this may be the sweet spot if you don't want to fork up 75K for an RS5, or can't afford the big daddy S7.
