Small Side and Big Side: BMW X2  & BMW X7

So in the world of the luxury CUV hatchback's (I patented this name don't take it), there are a couple of competitors that stand tall in the race, the Germans, the Japanese, and now Jaguar. Memo to all these smaller CUV's or cars that sit up higher include the following this is a new landmark where the compact CUV hatch is just making its mark in the industry.  Again there has to be a market for everything it is getting quite ridiculous but at the same time the more the merrier and different markets have different needs an example this CUV makes sense in new york city, but down in spacious Buckhead the need for narrow tight parking spaces are not of consequence. Then you have the minimalist the folks that just want to have the smallest capacity possible live for vacations and don't need excess space in their urban sprawl or country oasis. See in a way this changing of the tide to these smaller higher off the ground vehicles has the X5 looking like a Big SUV. I said it the X5 is now a big SUV so why is BMW building an X7 because people want a gigantic SUV especially those with little critters running around the casa ala over 3 kids. So what are talking about here the X7 in a way yes but it's in concept form this is the smallest entry into the market segment for BMW the X2.

The design direction of BWW has taken a backseat speaking more of an Audi language in recent years is this done on purpose, perhaps people like to complain but how long has Porshe been in power with it's slightly modified style for its 911. Even there older models stand the test of time we cannot say the same for the Chevy Corvette nor any other outlandish design that dates quickly when the classical approach is applied.  The problem when your too conservative a chord is struck and some of your new buyers cannot be attracted and some of your loyal buyers well if a competitor is next to them and grossly taking their eyes over well we know where that goes.

The release of the X2 a sporty heir to the X1 is a progressive step forward a smack back to the world that BMW exterior can be progressive and forward thinking. The focus is the Urban and Active it all starts with the kidney grille, whose outline is wider than it's top for the first on record at BMW. The scarier part of the vehicle comes in the form of an FWD BMW, scary but be happy in the fact that an AWD is presented here at first something I think we will see as consumers demand it. The coupe version of the BMW X1 sits lower, shorter overhangs and the shoulder lines of a coupe that help the lifted car have a more sexy stance. Other design features that aid in the projection of sporty includes bigger wheels (available 20 in.) and side skirts with enhanced colour. Horizontal rear lights help to exude the larger than life rear look. The BMW is in German heiB.

The engine choice for entry is the X2 sDrive20i, a 7 speed Steptronic dual clutch, Inline 4 Cylinder Twin Turbo, pushing 192 hp and 206 lb tq. an interesting use of the 7 Speed when I think the 8 Speed would do just fine throughout the model range. The combination should push this car to 60 in 7.7 seconds and post a 90 mph 1/4 mile enough of a push to pass the 20-ton Semi on the highway.

In all the price point will start at 34K an interesting play against its main competitor the Audi Q2 and Benz GLA. The BMW strikes the accord for fun and a proposition that is affordable now let's see if it can make a mark on the market.

The Other side of the coin....ohh la la the X7 ..competition lets kick it off

Cadillac Escalade - it is bigger but its a 3 row
Lexus GX470
Range Rover
Lincoln Navigator
Infinite QX60
Mercedes GL AMG
Audi .... hmmm where are you are?

The new X7 was long talked about but never released it is meant to capture the bigger life the recent concept shows proportions and an interior that could make its way to a dealership near you. If you haven't noticed BMW has realigned there focus to SUV, and CUV's hence why the new M5 in photos seems to bit light in style. The R&D went to the trucks and this luxury liner is no slouch, as a matter of fact, this will go in as a Bentley Bentyaga, Range Rover competitor if they bring this concept into production. The modern interior would be a welcomed upgrade to the bla BMW interior and a good change to the almighty Benz's interiors which are making there way through the truck ranks.

In all, I hate to make long statements on Concepts as there just something to visualize in the future let's see if BMW will bring this car into reality welcome to the new BMW statement.
