DAS CAYENNE, what started all this SUV 500+ HP, Sports Car characteristic madness born in Germany in the streets of Stuttgart an interesting phenomenon began and not because Europe needed it but more the great superpower called America struck a chord or an at least an attraction to the Porshe bottom line. See even though us car enthusiast love the 2 door coupe they are not profitable. They are a novelty and really don't grow your business and without growth, you can't produce R&D which kills development and eventually the competition catches up and you end up like K-Mart, remember that place the younger sister of Walmart that died.  So, in essence, the big SUV had a big role to play in the comeback story for Porshe and boy did they need it back in 2002. This entry into the segment also provided the means for the uber-luxury market to check out the appeal of a sporty truck.

That market study by Wendelin Wiedeking back into with the back against the wall proved to be one of the most pivotal moves market study's work and learning that 2/3rds of your Porshe drivers also had a BMW X5 one of the top-selling SUV's helped in a market target to the tune of 2.1 billion dollars. An amazing feat that has left companies like Ferrari and Lamborghini finally getting their footing straight and trying their hat in the SUV Omnisphere. During the time the mid-luxury brands such as BMW, AUDI, and BENZ had to up there game causing a war of 4 door family haulers that brought us to a point that Bentley Bentyaga's release has over 600 HP and JEEP has just said the HELL with it and turned the Hellcats 6.2 Liter engine into the trackhawk.

So now in its 4th generation, the starter of all this performance SUV nonsense strikes a chord with the Cayenne again making its reign known as the leader when it comes to taking the track and bending corners like the 911. What has the new package filled with engagement is the trickle down that we are seeing from the 918 a sports car marvel that characterized the Hypercar market.

Spec's in a nutshell just grabbed from Porshe:
  • 4.0L twin-turbo V8 makes 550 hp, 567 lb-ft of torque
  • Quicker and faster than previous generation Cayenne Turbo S
  • Zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds (with optional Sport Chrono Package)
  • Top track speed of 177 mph
  • Significantly enhanced standard equipment over previous Cayenne Turbo
  • MSRP of $124,600 excluding processing and delivery fee of $1,050
  • Expected to arrive at dealerships in Fall 2018
The newest treatment to the SUV extends from the Panamera's interior a touch screen laden environment that lends it's hand more to the Tesla and more to the coming millennial who doesn't even know what a corded phone is. This all in screen mobility allows for the perfect integrated driving experience but also allows for designers to have less moving parts to fondle with on warranties except for the actuators for the moving vents.

Active chassis is what makes the car special and the magic that worked in the Panamera should find its way into the well figured, let's give Porsche credit, when your over two tons you shouldn't move like this just speaking for the "Panamer" with the recent Alpha Romeo claim to be the fastest SUV around the Nurburgring Stelvio is facing a lot of trouble is the Cayenne returns.  A Porshe first in SUV will be the active aero i assume the split will be from the top lid of the trunk say bye bye. We look forward to what looks to be the twilight age of these GAS wars as the Porshe Blitzkrieg's again.
