2018 Accord - Competition Re-thickens
admin Sat, 15 Jul 2017 MACHEENE | Report AbuseNo Pun Intended that's not a Honda Malibu ....ouchhh That's the first thing that has struck me with this vehicle previously the accord resembled a smaller version of the recent released 5 series so they go away from that iconic design and move to a silhouette that has already been created as a matter of fact was created to directly compete against the 5 Series Accord. Well, Honda is not a luxury brand it's a mid-sized family sedan so in this respect we see the reverse happen for the trickle effect it's usually the base model that drives the direction for all new models to follow.
Honda recently released the Honda Civic so in that model we see the variance of the bigger civic come to life albeit with luxury features when spec'd to top trim that rival the Giulia, 3 Series, and sorry Cadillac you could learn a few interior tricks from the top trim Accord. Funny how we pitch Made in America when in fact, in an effort to bring some truth through statistics Honda is the third largest manufacturer in the USA. It's plants can be found all across the midwest and south providing 100's of thousands of jobs. So this latest iteration is another addition to American Jobs and we can all applaud that. So the Japanese Malibu look alike which was probably developed over 5 years ago so it really is a coincidence is beautiful. The cars lines and interior space increased in addition the interior has been upgraded to the point that I am worried for the entry level front drive sedans such as the Lexus ES350, Buick Lacrosse, and the recently discontinued Hyundai Azera (makes sense). See the midsize sedans have gotten large enough where they can play two roles and lessen production costs.
Changes to Accord:
- Brand New Chassis , with excess rigidity
- Increased interior space
- Turbocharged and Electrified Performance
- Sensing Technology
- Increased size 2 inches longer, .39 inches wider
Everything you need in luxury is here no need to trade up in all honesty. Back to the bullets because reading is hard:
Touchscreen - Check!
Still has knobs and buttons - Check!
Apple and Android Carplay - Check!
Wireless Charging - 4G LTE hotspot in the car - Check!
Auto Collision Breaking - Adaptive Cruise - Multi Angle Camera
Engine and Chassis:
So in ode to the lightweight fight (use to be horsepower) I assume that everyone can slap on a turbo engine to a vehicle so you have power equality here is the rumble of the lightweight wars where the power of a vehicle may not come from increased torque but a trimming of the pounds and Honda has 176lb to give back at its best.
Engine sizes include no more 3.5 V6 (NOOO...DON'T DO IT......) all powered by either a 10 speed automatic, CVT, or a 6 Speed Manual
1.5L 4 Cyl
2.4L TT 4 Cyl
2.0L TT 4 Cyl - 252 HP 273 LB Torque
In the end, it's a strike forward and one for a potent future the accord strikes again. Whatever you call it there's a fight at the top Camry please hold on the ride is going to be rough.
