Yea it's BMW week get over it, could this be the year that BMW comes back to running in full stride. Let's put it politely Mercedes-Benz has been kicking ass. They have been dropping bombs on the other side of the Berlin Wall with no real response to date but I'll give BMW the I8 and X5M as contenders to the war. So Mercedes has the big GT known as the S550 coupe it's a large niche market GT car with all the lines that the God's in the Pleiadian galaxies come from. The BMW has had no answer and the 6 series which is really doing multiple duties is getting a bit tired in the tooth technology wise as the body is still sexy they may have to mess up the next model to redo the lines of the 6 series.  So how do you fight a war when a company has multiple jet fighters and your running the F16 for all conditions you work on a new model to up the Ante.

See BMW has the following and it's a great line up for Coupe's M6, M4, and newly released M2 (I8 is still an electric car) but nothing competing against the S63AMG, Bentley GT, Aston Marti, Lexus LC Coupe.

BMW 850CSI:
I added no lines behind it because none are needed the 8 series launched in 89 was the mother of all coupe vehicles. The release of the car laid to light a significant departure and entry into the car industry. The flagship sedan was meant to complement the successful 6 Series what happened became a legend the car is what I call the entry into millionaire status. This is the car that pushed the realms between midlevel luxury sedan and exotic Supercar's dare I not say this was the R8 of its time but think of the R8 with the engine in the front fairly great point of entry for a GT vehicle. Be advised we are talking 1980's supercar as the horsepower and Spec's now would compare it to the baseline Camaro (go ahead and Neg. me now).

Be careful what kind of designs you bring in this era. It is a new time with new segments, genre's, and competition has just gotten a whole lot thicker. The now competitors, well the cars now have this new line of demarcation and judging by the look of this car and its main rival over on the other side of Munich the  S550 coupe from Mercedes takes the prize. So go big or go home is the theory and you better have a performance version for every iteration of the vehicle that you have on tap to hit the market despite the recent green spree (anything electric).

So let me get land blasted again but this car design is so familiar a bit of Aston Martin DB11 and Lexus LC come to mind the infusion is great as most new cars the photos more than likely won't do the car justice have to wait and see in person. This is an opportunity I assume to get in or get laid out. Let's start with the design language

Design:
Long Hood aka The Bonnet exemplifies the aura of something special. BMW sticking to its roots of front engine rear wheel drive still remains commonplace in this ball game. The roofline stretches in the concept which means presence with low pro tires and the face of a polished model, the familiar BMW grill falls in place and meets the intent of it's coming. Good morning it says to you, get your wallets ready. the design will continue to be the focal point the flares signify a slight edge of sportiness in the vehicle and they intensify through the sides with some small subtleties.

Air intakes the first sign for the old fire-breathing gasoline engine that something is under the hood, there large and enough room to capture all the pollution in Shang Hai in one fatal swoop. The backend the mix, something not seen from BMW you would mistake this for a Lexus or an Infinite Q60 coupe (oops i said it) but a more upscale version and a departure from the norm. I accept this just wish there was a better flow, i guess I am getting old but I am still the guy who finds the XKR-S better looking than the F-Type R.

To where your Butt sits:
The interior is faithful but much newer technology certainly influenced by the simplicity of the I8 this style turns over to this concept. Once again we are looking at a glass half full fewer buttons more touch screens and the possibility/hint of the all important plugin for the cars future.  Still simple in look it's more about the feeling, this reminds me of a silk sheet that touch and the car have these exotic green materials throughout. It's just not something you will fall in love with at first glance (from the guy that never sat in the car)....I can only envision the return of the BMW to a hierarchy that chooses to match blow for blow with Mercedes. Should Aston Martin and Bentley be worried well let the bruises complete with the two in germany and see if the luxury brand can make the next step and capture the super luxury niche.

At this point just looking at the vehicle it's competitors will be the:
Mercedes S class Coupe
Lexus LC Coupe
Bentley GT
Aston Martin DB11
