Duran Lantink's PFW Showcase Was All in "Bad Taste"

Paris-based design label Duran Lantink presented what was probably one of the most recorded showcases this Paris Fashion Week season, a self-titled collection, aptly called "Duranimal." Littered with animal prints and repurposed cow and snakeskin, the garish collection felt as if it intended to shock and awe -- and it did just that.

The collection featured custom footwear silhouettes, debuting its first collaboration with the Italian footwear brand, Sergio Rossi. Elsewhere, models were body-painted in zebra and leopard, evolving the designer's already daring pattern play. "I can handle 'bad taste' too," the designer comments in his show notes.

Previously, Latink has become known for his bubble-shaped forms so this Fall/Winter 2025 season, the designer aimed to elevate and innovate through tapered silhouettes, exploring "shape as style." Most notably, two of this collection's silhouettes were crafted with interlocking forms, hand-knit by a group of women in the Netherlands.

Another collaboration landed in the form of the show space, which saw Latink team up with production company Bureau Betak and use their office as the space. Juxtaposing the corporate-style setting, a soundtrack of acapella performers accompanied the showcase, seated in cubicles as models walked past. This was the work of sound artist Frederic Sanchez, of whom Latink said, "It's really great to work with Frederic because he gives you that deeper layer; when we discussed the idea of bringing opera singers in the office I thought it aligned perfectly with my collection of odd combinations."

Finally, the most shocking and awe-inducing looks came courtesy of prosthetic body parts, which opened and ended the show. Of this, Latink explained, "I love the idea of women as action figures. I think everyone should feel empowered to create their own identity and not feel restricted by anything."
