Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino has divulged that a sequel to the 2017 film is unlikely.

In a recent interview with Deadline, the Italian filmmaker -- who is currently working with CMBYN star Timothée Chalamet on Bones And All -- revealed that he is far too busy to focus on the sequel, which he announced last year. “The truth of the matter is, my heart is still there, but I’m working on this movie now,” he said. "I’m hopefully going to do Scarface soon, and I have many projects and so will focus on this side of the Atlantic and the movies I want to make," the director added, referencing his remake of the iconic gangster film.

Given the very serious sexual assault allegations against Armie Hammer, it makes sense that Guadagnino would scrap plans for CMBYN 2. Much of the fandom surrounding the movie has to do with its original cast, and recasting one character likely wouldn't track. In addition, Chalamet, who was set to reprise his role as Elio, is facing a packed schedule of his own -- the actor has signed onto several hefty projects, including the Willy Wonka origin movie and Netflix comedy Don't Look Up.
