Gucci's Newest Seoul Flagship Is Inspired by Korea's Traditional Homes
info@hypebae.com (HYPEBAE) Mon, 31 May 2021 HYPEBAEMarking its second location in the South Korean capital, Gucci has opened a new flagship dubbed "GUCCI GAOK." Situated in the Itaewon neighborhood of Seoul, the four-story space takes inspiration from "gaok (가옥)," Korea's traditional homes.
This time around, Alessandro Michele tapped artist Seungmo Park to design the façade, which features images of a forest created using stainless steel wires. The lighting changes throughout the day and will also shift based on seasons and special holidays like Christmas, serving as a new landmark of the area.
As for the interior, Michele's signature aesthetic is found throughout with flashy, disco-inspired metallic tiles laid all over the walls. Taking center stage is a spiral staircase, which leads to a variety of product displays spanning fine jewelry, accessories, homeware, ready-to-wear fashion and more. The space also features a hidden room filled with classic furniture dedicated to private shoppers.
Celebrating the opening, celebrities such as EXO and SuperM member KAI, Sunmi, Jay Park and Lee Ji-ah visited the store for a socially distanced event. Take a closer look at "GUCCI GAOK" below.
