Willy Chavarria Drops FW24 Lookbook For Its Collection, "Safe From Harm"
info@hypebae.com (Hypebae) Mon, 30 Dec 2024 HypebaeWilly Chavarria's 2024 was nothing short of remarkable. The year kicked off with Billie Eilish wearing his designs on the Golden Globes red carpet. From there, Chavarria unveiled two incredible runway shows -- "Safe From Harm" for Fall/Winter 2024 and "Welcome to América" for Spring/Summer 2025. Additionally, he won the coveted CFDA American Menswear Designer of the Year award -- a fitting finale to a career-defining stretch.
As the year comes to a close, Chavarria dropped new campaign imagery from "Safe From Harm" starring models including Paloma Elsesser, Kai Isaiah Jamal and Erik Martinez who also walked in "Welcome to América."
Chavarria has long impressed us with his visionary approach and unparalleled storytelling -- and these latest images are no exception. Each portrait seamlessly blends the rigid with the delicate. In an exploration of gender fluidity, models are in traditionally masculine menswear pieces, juxtaposed with the feminine elegance of high heels. The interplay doesn't stop at the clothing, the photographs themselves exude a captivating contrast. While the silhouettes evoke strength and structure, they are bathed in soft, diffused lighting that makes the entire series both powerful and poetic.
"This collection is very sensitive and I wanted to make sure that I'm not doing something that distracts from reality," Chavarria shared with Hypebeast at the time of the FW24 show. "I want to recognize how we all feel right now, which is not so great. But at the same time, reminding us that we're here for each other."
