Keep Your Lineup Eco-Friendly With Weekday's Denim Pieces Made From Food Crop Waste

Following up on its Y2K-inspired collection, Weekday has now launched a limited range of denim pieces focused on sustainability. The four-piece lineup serves as an extension of the Swedish brand's ongoing initiative to build a more circular and eco-friendly fashion cycle.

Teaming with a tech startup, Weekday has crafted a jacket, trousers, skirt and tee using Agraloop™, a technology that transforms food crop waste into usable fibers. Derived from oil-seed hemp, the collection is responsibly made both environmentally and socially.

"Hemp as a textile can make you think of veggie spread and clothes that are available in health food stores. We like that association and decided to maximize it in a few standalone pieces," the label's responsible womenswear designer Alice Shulman shares in a statement. "The cotton-hemp blend has a rough structure and we let it speak for itself, with sculptural silhouettes combined with lacing that allows for versatility." Denim designer Per Axén adds: "Hemp has been around for decades but its development got delayed because it was banned... It requires less land, water and pesticides compared to cotton and enriches the soil it’s grown on."

The resulting items feature the Mabel Jacket, a versatile piece sporting lace-up details that allow the sleeves to be detachable. The same design cues are found on the Plant Based Jeans and Woody Skirt, which are also multifunctional. All of the garments come in an oatmeal ivory hue that is achieved through the use of plant-based dye.
