That 'Saltburn' Graveyard Masturbation Scene Wasn't Planned...

During a time where people argue there’s "too much sex on TV," Saltburn delivered villainesque sex scenes that put debates of "overconsumption" and lack of necessity to bed. From Jacob Elordi’s bath water becoming a soy, sustainable candle to that solo sex scene, the f-ckery just never ceased to end. According to actor Barry Keoghan, who plays Oliver in the film, one scene in particular was improvised.

This post contains spoilers.

After the shocking and heavy death of Elordi’s character Felix, viewers witness a crazed Oliver as he embarks on a journey of grief at Felix’s gravesite. Where the process of grief usually follows denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, Oliver’s process took a more erotic turn. Before viewers knew it, he was reveling a moment of solo sex at Felix’s gravesite – with dirt.

During a red carpet interview with Deadline, Keoghan reveals that scene was improvised and with good reason. "I wanted to see what Oliver would do next," he said while discussing Oliver’s grief. "I wanted to see what the next level of obsession was."

"And by that [I mean], I just wanted the camera to roll. Not to kind of preempt it or rehearse it and what happened, happened. It was one take, and I think it was right. It moved the story forward." Ironically, this is exactly why sex scenes are important in film and to our surprise, viewers ate it up. Could this be the end of the sex scene disdain? We hope so.
