ICYMI: Male Birth Control Is Almost Here...

In case you missed it, a new sexual wellness development promotes the right to choose, following the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the U.S.

Every year, the medical industry sends an update on the developments of male birth control and women worldwide follow along -- speculatively. In 2022, the leading couples sex toy brand, We-Vibe, revealed that the "Future of Male Contraception" was here. What was it? One of two options. One, "a gel that can be applied to the skin and effectively reduces sperm count,” and the second, a "non-hormonal injection into the vas deferens that stops the release of sperm."

According to WiRED, Contraline, a biotech company, has found success with what it refers to as the "IUD for men." It's the same method discussed by We-Vibe in 2022, and it's completely reversible. This means that the risks of male contraption, which were once solely vasectomies, may become more accessible and changeable.

Co-founder of Contraline, Kevin Eisenfrats, said: "Right now, there is nothing out there that’s long-lasting and reversible for men. This is made for people who are not ready to have kids, are spacing out having kids or think they are done having kids but maybe not ready for that permanent option."

For women, this can offer more possibilities and flexibility to sexual wellness routines. currently, a majority of birth control options are targeted to women, while the overturning of Roe v. Wade reveals a government desire to restrict women's right to choose. Hopefully, the growth of men's contraception can increasingly destigmatize the theme of choice in contraception.
