I Have $200 and a Goal of Looking Rich—34 Nordstrom Finds That Fit All My Needs

Eliza Huber  Sun, 17 Dec 2023  Who What Wear

I know I can't be the only person here who wants, when they get dressed, to look expensive. We've been taught it basically all our lives, but instead of that word, people said "nice" or "sophisticated." To me, all of the above mean the same thing, except mine implies an extra oomph—or, perhaps, an extra dollar sign. Of course, the trick is to reach this ultimate goal without having to actually spend a lot of money. A $2000 bag will make you look rich; that's a given. But if you can find a $50 one that gives the same impression, that's when you've really won.

After 28 years, I've learned a thing or two about gaming the system to get the vibe I want for a price I can afford, which is what brought me to spend the last, I don't know, four hours scrolling through Nordstrom's latest arrivals in search of pieces that would appear to set me back thousands but all cost under $200. Scroll down to shop the 34 pieces I unearthed along the way.

This silky cardigan is great all buttoned up, but after office hours, debut your inner office siren by unbuttoning a few.

I'm ready to buy these in every single color Reformation offers. That's how good they are.

A simple kitten-heel pump is essential in any rich-looking wardrobe.

A pop of red is always appreciated.

This blazer almost fits too well.

Dark gray is one of those colors that will always give off signals of wealth.

I've been adding fishnets to all of my outfits lately, and they just add a little touch of chicness.

I always keep these in my handbag that has silver hardware so I can match.

Oversize, cashmere, and under $200? Say less.

Don't buy an itchy scarf that'll knot your hair and not actually keep you warm when you can get one that's cashmere and will last you a lifetime for $129. Just don't.

A perfect work-to-drinks to dinner dress.

Finally, an alt for Hailey Bieber's Wardrobe.NYC Polo coat that's chic and not shockingly expensive.

These are so Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

Comfy but luxe at the same time.

No frumpy denim here.

I can't believe these are $90. Like, I'm in genuine shock.

I want to spend the entirety of the holiday season in this cable-knit cardigan.

Just so good.

Dark-wash jeans always look pricier than light-wash ones in my opinion.

Now throw a V-neck cashmere sweater on top.

These Jenny Bird letter necklaces are a fantastic gift for your fanciest, pickiest friend.

I've been maybe a tad too obsessed with navy lately.

This on-sale cashmere sweater is simply perfect, wouldn't you say?

For layering purposes, you can't beat this Commando bodysuit. At the same time, though, it gives strong Alaïa vibes on its own.

No more dirty canvas work totes.

Ever since Saint Laurent debuted gorgeous silky tanks at the F/W 23 show, I've been searching for the perfect one. Oop—my search is over.

Another pair of black trousers? Why not?

These oxblood patent-leather flats are super elegant and comfortable.

This is the kind of dress that you can wear anywhere, anytime, and for any occasion.

Whoa, I needed this coat like yesterday.

Throw this on top of your half-up, half-down hairdo or atop your pony tail for a more elegant style.

The shape of this vest is just gorgeous.

A great pencil skirt always looks luxurious.

Yes, this stunning timepiece is under $200. It's a miracle.
