I'm a Shopping Editor, and These Are My Top 3 Stores to Shop for Winter Basics

Ana Escalante  Thu, 14 Dec 2023  Who What Wear

As a shopping editor, naturally, it's in my job description to sit in front of my computer and stare at pretty things all day. From luxe-looking, under-$100 finds to chic runway-inspired pieces, it is literally my job to shop. So when I tell you something is actually worth your money after looking at hundreds of products a day, I mean it.

In between all the statement coats and fun accessories this winter, I'm relying on my tried-and-true arsenal of everyday basics to hold me together. Whether it's cozy sweaters you can wear with anything under the sun or timeless coats ideal for any occasion, there are usually three stores I turn to first when I'm looking to pick up an item or two guilt-free.

Below, shop the best winter basics (with most coming in under $200!) from H&M, Shopbop, and Nordstrom. Don't get mad at me if you scroll through my curated list and end up buying everything on here!

Starting off strong with this chic pencil skirt.

For under $30, this one is practically a steal.

Incredibly cozy.

H&M's low-cost, high-joy jeans have to be some of my favorites on the market.

Every good outfit ends with a pair of shoes.

This holey sweater might not be the best at protecting you in sub-20ºF temperatures, but it sure does look good.

All of the cool girls this year are wearing oversize faux-fur coats with simple tights underneath—if you're looking to add this version of the maximalist's coat into your wardrobe, look no further.

So easy with a pair of matching white boots, as styled here.

These cult-classic H&M pants are the item that keeps on giving.

Jaw-dropping.

I know French women everywhere would be obsessed with this pick.

These are just baggy enough to feel like Bella Hadid would wear them.

Nordstrom's luxe selection of cashmere knits has to be one of our team's best finds of the year.

Not a want, but a need.

Keep your neck warm but your arms cool in this beloved Reformation vest.

This chocolate miniskirt feels so rich when styled with some classic items like slouchy sweaters and sleek leather ankle boots.

An absolute must.

Did someone say holiday party?

So cute (and on deep discount!).

These pants have to be one of my personal favorite items that I bought this year.

This scarf coat gives off major main-character energy.

The double waistband on this is making my fashion-editor heart soar.

The viral bomber is now back in stock.

No hesitation to buy this swoon-worthy sweater.

Reformation always makes the best winter basics.

An absolute must if you're looking to stay casual, cozy, and chic this season.

This nipped-in waist gives off major Schiaparelli vibes.

Me saying bye to 2023 like…

Aren't you glad you kept scrolling so you wouldn't miss this adorable knit dress?

French girls everywhere are obsessed with these elevated jackets and cardigans.

I'll leave you with my favorite item on this list.
