Hajime Sorayama Alleges Beyoncé Copied His Cyber Femme Aesthetic

Artist Hajima Sorayama has called out Beyoncé, alleging that she copied his signature cyber femme aesthetic as a result of the visuals she's used during her ongoing RENAISSANCE film tour. Pointing out a series of graphics which depict Bey in a robot headdress and suit, the Japanese artist alleges that she's ripped off the digi-femme aesthetic he's since become so known for.

Taking to Instagram to share his thoughts, Sorayama posted an image from the tour, with a caption that read: Yo @beyonce. You should have asked me "officially" so that I could make much better work for you as like my man @theweeknd."

At present, it's not clear as to whether or not Beyoncé's team have responded to the accusations, however as expected, fans on both sides of the argument haven't wasted any time in sharing their thoughts on the situation. One comment read, "I'm a fan of your work, but this is a reach. These visuals have been out since May when the tour started; however, now you suddenly have a problem with it?"

Similarly, some fans were quick to point out the other brands and designers who have previously adopted a similar style, mentioning Mugler and Gaultier and stating that Sorayama doesn't "own the Android aesthetic." On the flip side, another comment read, "You can still be a Beyhive but still be critical. I immediately thought she collaborated with Sorayama for the Android visuals. This is a bit of a letdown.

Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
