The Best Mary Janes to Add to Your Fall Footwear Rotation

The return of the Mary Jane shoe has quickly amounted to one of 2023's biggest footwear trends, and it's not gone unnoticed. The versatile, season-transcending silhouette has made its way back into our hearts for a few reasons, one being that it's a big part of the school kid, dark academia trend (which we explored the rise of earlier this summer) and another being due to the rise in two pretty significant footwear phenomenons: the Maison Margiela Tabi and the Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GT-2160.
The rise of the Tabi, of course, was partly due to the viral Tabi Swiper story that dominated social media this summer, leading to a 30% rise in "positive interest" surrounding the shoe style, according to the Instagram account databutmakeitfashion. Alongside that, the rise can be attributed to our longstanding affiliation with ballet flats, which once again returned this summer and fashion month season.
