If you've been following the NFT boom, you're probably aware that the digital phenomenon is an ecological nightmare. NFTs and the blockchain network cryptocurrencies operate on generate an extremely high volume of carbon dioxide emissions -- according to an estimate updated on March 31, popular crypto art platform OpenSea has emitted 67,824,222 kilograms of carbon since launch. Though the novelty of NFTs is undeniably appealing, the medium is at least partly responsible for the billions of tons of climate-warming CO2 emitted each year.

To help offset the ecological impact of NFTs, online platform Aerial has launched a tool that estimates the carbon and gas emissions of NFT collections and directs users to carbon removal projects to compensate for their footprint. Simply copy your NFT collection address into the website and contribute to a relevant carbon project using a credit card or Ethereum.

Head to the Aerial website to find out your NFT carbon footprint and help offset emissions.
