Apple has just confirmed that all iPhones will be saying goodbye to the classic lightning port and saying hello to the USB-C version.

According to a new regulations rolled out in the European Union and Brazil, USB-C ports are mandatory for smartphones and while Apple has procrastinated complying, the EU will be enforcing the law starting in 2024.

In an interview with The Wall Street Street Journal, the tech company's senior vice president Greg Joswiak stated, "Obviously we'll have to comply, we have no choice. We think the approach would've been better environmentally, and better for our customers, for the governments to not be that prescriptive," said Joswiak.

Joswiak was vague about timing of the rollout, continuing, "The Europeans are dictating timing for European customers." In either case, consumers will be relatively unaffected as it will mean that most of their electronic devices will share a charging cable as many already have USB-C ports.
